Summer School Curriculum
SUMMER SCHOOL COURSE OVERVIEW • Computer Applications – this course is designed for both middle school and high school students and feature individualized instruction and self paced learning. Students may select from the following areas: basic computer application (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Web Programming (HTML, JavaScript), or Adobe Graphics (Illustrator, Flash and PhotoShop). Emphasis is placed on advancing student knowledge and proficiency with basic computer application.
• Digital Photography – this course is designed for both middle school and high school students. Emphasis is placed on operating the digital camera and photographic techniques.
• Middle School English / Social Studies – this course is designed for middle school students, emphasis of the course will be to assist students in the areas of reading, writing and social studies skills. For students that need enrichment and individualized instruction.• Middle School Math / Science – this course is designed for students needing help in middle school math and science concepts. For students that need enrichment and individualized instruction.

• World History / Geography – this course is designed for high school students with emphasis on world geography, world cultures, and world history. Emphasis will be on students gaining knowledge about the world through art, presentation, game development, and critical thinking skills.
• United States History – In the United States History course, students examine the events and people that have had an impact on the development of the United States of America. The classes are designed to show cause/effect relationships of historical events through reading, research, discussion, and written assignments. A large portion of the class is devoted to studying current global situations. Students are expected to gather information about vents using newspapers and internet news sources.
• Government / Economics – This course allows students to examine the relationship that exists between the Federal Government of the United States of America and its economy. Emphasis is placed on discussing the governments' role to a society. We will also examine differing forms of government around the world to gain a better understanding of how the United States Federal Government operates as a Constitutional, Federal, Democratic Republic. Other topics of study revolve around skills needed to survive in a society such as Home Economics, Banking, Budgeting, and Microeconomic and Macroeconomic principles.
• Composition & Literature Course – this course is designed for high school students that need credit for high school, multi grade course, individualized instruction for students needing help with writing up to students needing pre-college writing.
• High School Math – this course is designed for students needing credit in pre-algebra, algebra, algebra II, and advanced math. Individualized instruction.
• Geometry through Geology – this course is offered to high school students. Geometry is taught with geometric concepts obtained through the learning of geology. Students will hike local areas once a week to understand how geometry is part of geology.
• Science – this course is designed for students needing credit in earth science, biology, chemistry and physics.
• Spanish I, & II – This course is designed for high school students preparing for college. Many of the classes offered have a field trip component so students may gain additional knowledge using the natural surroundings of Arizona. |
